Camping is a wonderful way to connect with nature, but it can quickly turn sour when the rain starts to pour. There's nothing worse than being cooped up in a tent, with nothing to do but wait for the rain to stop. Fortunately, there are many ways to stay dry while camping in the rain and give yourself a little more space for enjoying nature. In this article, we'll cover several tips to help you stay dry even when the weather isn't cooperating.
Invest in quality rain gear
The first step to staying dry while camping in the rain is to invest in quality rain gear. A good raincoat and waterproof pants are essential for staying dry while hiking or setting up camp in the rain. Make sure to choose rain gear that is both waterproof and breathable, so you don't end up getting wet from sweat. Even if the weatherman forecasts sunny skies, it’s always good idea to bring your rain gear along, just in case.
Choose a dry campsite
Choosing the right campsite is crucial when camping in the rain. Look for a site that is on high ground, away from any potential flooding. Avoid pitching your tent near trees that could fall or drop branches in high winds. Also, consider the angle of the ground – if possible, choose a site with a slight slope so that rainwater can run off.
Use a tarp or groundsheet
Even if your tent is waterproof, it's always a good idea to use a tarp or groundsheet underneath it. This will help prevent water from seeping through the bottom of the tent and keep your gear dry. Make sure the tarp is slightly smaller than your tent, so water doesn't pool between the tarp and the tent.
Don’t forget your Let's Go Aero shelter
Let's Go Aero offers two fantastic shelters – the Moon Unit and ArcHaus – that are perfect for camping in the rain. These shelters are designed to keep you dry while giving you more space to still enjoying the outdoor view. They are made with waterproof fabric and have a spacious interior that can accommodate chairs, tables, and even a propane stove for cooking meals.
Both the Moon Unit & ArcHaus can be used for camping, but are also great options for backyard parties, and other outdoor activities. They are easy to set up and take down, and it comes with a carrying bag for easy transport. The ArcHaus has a 6ft x 10ft footprint and attaches to small to mid-size vehicles, while the Moon Unit has a larger 10ft x 8ft footprint and works great with mid to large-size vehicles and campers. The Moon Unit also boasts a thicker 2,000mm polyurethane coating, UV 50 rated material, and includes more options like a modular floor and extra door options.
Using a Let's Go Aero shelter while camping in the rain is a great way to stay dry while still enjoying the outdoors. You can play games with family, relax and read a book, or cook meals using a propane stove. The shelters are also great for keeping gear dry, so you don't have to worry about wet gear once the rains stops.
Our friend Eddie, recently took the ArcHaus with him and his family while camping in their iconic VW Westfalia, Eurovan and ended up caught in the rain. He told us, “The ArcHaus really made the difference, instead of staying cramped in the van, we were able to comfortably hang out under the ArcHaus. We moved the table under the shelter so the kids and I could play games. We made a lot of memories that wouldn’t have been possible without it.” Below are some photo's from Eddies (when it wasn't raining).
Camping in the rain doesn't have to be a miserable experience. By investing in quality rain gear, choosing a dry campsite, using a tarp or groundsheet, and using a Let's Go Aero shelter, you can stay dry and still enjoy the beauty of nature. So don't let a little rain dampen your camping spirit – get out there and explore!
