Top quality and great service

I can not over-emphasize over what a quality product this is and the high level of service from Let's Go Aero. The T6 is a top quality product, logically designed and manufactured with top quality components. It's robust where it needs to be, and conservative where it's not seeing a high load to save weight. Instructions are incredibly descriptive - I really appreciate how each step details what tool size to use. This is the largest cargo carrier I could find and I use it for my RV to carry extra gear. You will not be disappointed; well worth the price!

Piece of junk

I purchased the Gear Cage, Landing Gear, and two bike rack add-ons for a four-week camping road-trip with my children. I was excited to find exactly what we needed to transport our gear and bikes and thought this would be the best way to free up room in our vehicle, transport our camp kitchen set-up, and our four mountain bikes for our adventure.

I was initially surprised when these three parts, totally over $1600 came in unassembled. I had gone back and forth on ordering this set-up, due to the cost, and decided to spring for it at last minute. Shipping was quick, which has been the only good part.

It took us the better part of a day to assemble the entire thing. Granted, it was an extremely hot day and we took frequent breaks. Still was not a pleasant experience. A prior cargo trailer and bike rack I purchased that was a much less complex assembly came in fully assembled, so that is what I was expecting. I don’t remember reading “some assembly required” (or in this case, complete assembly required) in any of the info I read, over the two to three weeks I debated on this purchase, or I may not have waited so long to make my decision (or may have just made due with what I already had). Live and learn. And this was just the Gear cage.

The bike racks went on fairly easily, though, again, we had to assemble it all (why they couldn’t bother to even put the foam bumpers on prior to packaging and shipping, I’ll never understand… those are a pain to slide on, due to the extremely snug fit, which is a good thing).

Next up, landing gear. Try as we might, we could not get it to fit properly, and the legs will not nestle in correctly when folded.

The first time we dropped the landing gear and pulled it off our hitch, everything became severely mangled, with less than 100lbs sitting on the gear cage. Major fail. In addition, the wheels on the landing gear are either sticking all the time, or not properly locking into place when we have leveled the cage and then the front or back falls down lower than we set it.

Three days into our road trip, and I started noticing rust and corrosion, especially on our bike racks. On day 5, we find that we have to keep checking to make sure all the screws are staying in place. The poorly fitting cam screws constantly have to be pushed back into place, as they do not fit snugly into the holes or stay resting correctly. Today, day 6, we pulled into stop 3. After completely unloading everything off the gear cage to remove it from my vehicle for the week we will be at this stop, I discovered that during our 400 leg from stop 2 to stop 3, we’ve lost at least two Allen screws because the rattle loose from the ill-fitting cam screws, despite our best efforts to check everything at every stop to make sure it was staying in place.

I’m a farm-girl, born and raised, and I’m 100% sure that these screws were properly inserted and tightened during our assembly. I checked and rechecked assembly and had my dad (a farmer and mechanic) go over everything before we set out on the road. So now, I’ll have to be making some road repairs to this piece of junk, since we are about 800 miles into our trip and I can’t turn back now.

In addition, the folding hinge on the gear came sucks, and seems to have rusted in place over the 6 days we’ve been on the road. Now I have faulty landing gear that can’t even support the gear cage and a light load AND a cargo trailer that won’t fold up, so it has to be completely unloaded and removed from the hitch, then left standing, basically empty, at camp.

The concept is great, but the manufacturing and quality control process is severely lacking. My advise: save your money and find something different to invest in.
